Cindy and I woke up early Monday morning and went to Chichen Itza. We took the toll road there and when we arrived we took many pictures of the ancient Mayan  wonder. You can see the pictures in their entirety via a slide show by clicking here or to view a web site that has a more detailed description of what Chichen Itza is all about click here.

Listed below you will find a brief description of our journey there and our return trip on the rural highways of Mexico. The standard of living in Mexico is remarkably different when compared to the good ole USA as we witnessed.

The toll road on the way there is all jungle and the scenery doesn't change much except the occasional toll booth where we found the shrubs to have a unique look about them.

The expert tour guide (yeah right) Cindy points out a few details of the Mayan ruins.

Most anywhere you go in Mexico you encounter Mexican peddlers at every corner and straight away and Chichen Itza is no exception. The picture below shows a female peddler with one on the ground in training and one in the oven to be trained.

On our return trip from Chichen Itza on Mexico's rural highway system we went through Valladolid which has a population of 163,000 and many other smaller Mexican towns. It was obvious to see how poor the Mexican people are in the rural areas.

When we returned to Cancun we took a twilight walk on the beach and snapped the photo below.
